The FW47 was unveiled this morning. At the event dedicated to Williams’ 2025 season, James Vowles announced changes aimed at the team’s growth. A first look at the car already reveals new design directions. A shift has also occurred in the driver lineup, with Carlos Sainz joining Alex Albon instead of a rookie from Formula 2.
The historic British team has faced challenging seasons in recent years. The final phase of last season could serve as a starting point for a project focused on growth. The 2024 season was marked by costly crashes, but now the team has found financial stability, partly thanks to a new sponsorship deal with Atlassian.
In addition to unveiling the new car, Williams also took it to the track, with Carlos Sainz behind the wheel. The Spaniard completed two laps on Silverstone’s shortened configuration. The run took place on full-wet tires, but the main goal was to ensure everything functioned correctly, which it did.
James Vowles’ words
Williams Team Principal James Vowles spoke about the major changes coming in 2025. The goal remains to continue the growth trend the team has shown over the past year. The British engineer, who arrived from Mercedes with the ambition of restoring Williams to its rightful place, is determined to turn the team’s fortunes around.
“The most important thing is that our progress will be visible. I’ve always said that our focus is on 2026 and beyond. We are developing components that will showcase the results of this. This year, we have a major infrastructure change coming. We used to be 700 people, and now we are 1,500—and we’re not done yet. It’s all happening behind the scenes.”
“What I want to make clear is that we’re not working for the short term, gaining a little at the cost of the long term. We are here to make sure we can return to fighting for the World Championship. That will still take time, but we are making the necessary investments. As I said before, just look at our trajectory so far. The upcoming year should be a good one.” – he pointed out.
Williams is therefore undergoing structural changes, alongside a significant increase in staff numbers. The partnership with Atlassian is a key part of this growth. The British team has regained the financial means to rebuild, and its new title sponsor will play a crucial role in this process.
