Too many races in F1, Franz Tost goes against the tide
Twenty-four race weekends, six of which with Sprint races: Formula 1 has found this balance and doesn’t want to let it go, even in the face of complaints from drivers and teams, who have repeatedly described the current calendar as bordering on unbearable.
The current “offer” risks being overwhelming even for fans (especially if the season is dominated by a single driver, as it was in 2023), but Liberty Media will not back down unless the numbers prove the need to slow down. This is something Franz Tost would not do: the former AlphaTauri team principal actually believes that the mechanics should not complain about the workload, which is less demanding compared to the past even with many more races.
Franz Tost’s words
“I think 24 races are just fine. People always say that the mechanics are overwhelmed with work. It’s a real joke. We had the race on the weekend and testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday,” these are the words reported by the Germans from motorsport-total.com. “At first, we even had two cars. And it was always the same technicians and engineers. I never heard a complaint from them.” – he pointed out.
“Now there’s also a curfew in Formula 1, which means work finishes at 9 PM and starts again at 8 AM. But what more do they want? They get to work in Formula 1, it’s a privilege. All this balance between work and private life is just total nonsense. It’s only useful for those who are too lazy to work.” – the former AlphaTauri team principal concluded.
