The São Paulo Grand Prix is fast approaching, and the atmosphere in the McLaren garage is buzzing with energy and expectation. With the 2025 drivers’ championship closer than ever and only four races remaining, the British team arrives in Brazil with its two frontrunners, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, separated by a single point and determined to give everything. Interlagos, with its iconic corners and unpredictable weather, will host a high-tension weekend, made even more intriguing by the Sprint Race, offering additional opportunities to score crucial points.
The drivers speak
Lando Norris does not hide his excitement about returning to Brazil:
“I’m thrilled to be racing at Interlagos again. The São Paulo Grand Prix is always a fun weekend and the city itself is fantastic to visit. It’s also a Sprint weekend, so I’ll be aiming to maximize points. Last week I was back with the team in Woking. We debriefed the double-header and I spent time on the simulator preparing for this weekend. I feel good and I can’t wait to get back on track. Let the challenge begin!”
Oscar Piastri also shows determination and confidence, despite losing the championship lead in Mexico, emphasizing the technical challenges of the track:
“Brazil is a great opportunity to score valuable points, especially with the Sprint Race. The championship is still wide open, and preparation for this weekend has been very productive. I like this track, with its elevation changes and mix of long straights and tight sections. As always, we’ll also have to keep an eye on the weather conditions.”
Team principal’s perspective
Team Principal Andrea Stella highlights the critical stage of the season and the strength of their direct competitor in the title race:
“It’s time to head to Brazil for the São Paulo Grand Prix. This is the most exciting part of the year as we approach the conclusion of the 2025 season. We’re proud that our two drivers are leading the championship, separated by just one point. However, we are fully aware that we have a very strong competitor in the drivers’ title race, and it’s no coincidence that it’s the reigning champion and four-time world champion.”
Andrea Stella remains cautious, even while acknowledging the competitiveness of the MCL39:
“In Mexico City, the MCL39 was the fastest car, but we cannot assume it will be the same in São Paulo, as the competition is very strong. We will continue to approach each race with the same mindset, aiming to extract the maximum performance to give our drivers the chance to fight for the top positions.”
He also emphasizes the importance of the Sprint and the need to adapt quickly:
“This is also a Sprint weekend, which gives us more opportunities to score points. At the same time, we will need to pay even closer attention to detail to find the right car setup, especially considering the limited time available for practice. As always in São Paulo, we will be ready to handle unpredictable weather, which has often been a decisive factor here.”
The uncertain conditions at Interlagos, the rising pressure, and the internal McLaren rivalry make this a can’t-miss event. The title race is more open than ever, and if the MCL39 can remain competitive on the Brazilian circuit, the championship dream could truly turn papaya orange.
