So many memories
Few drivers in Formula 1 can claim to have such a deep connection with a circuit as Max Verstappen does with Interlagos. The Brazilian track has provided several unforgettable moments throughout his career — from the spectacular outside overtake on Nico Rosberg in 2016 to the incredible victory last season, when he stormed from seventeenth on the grid to first place, a performance that virtually sealed his World Championship title.
“Brazil is a special place for me, not only because of the incredible races and amazing moments we’ve had there, but also because my in-laws are Brazilian,” Max Verstappen said, referring to his relationship with Kelly Piquet, daughter of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet. “It can rain a lot there, so you can have some really crazy races. I especially think about last year, when we won after qualifying seventeenth. It was an emotional victory and an important moment for the championship.”
The Dutch champion also revealed he will wear a special helmet for the event. “I’ll be using a design dedicated to Brazil. It’s a place with so much history and tradition, but also full of great memories for me. I chose traditional colors that stand out, and I think the helmet looks really cool — I can’t wait to wear it on track. The fans are incredibly passionate, and I’ve always loved racing on such a historic circuit. Seeing that atmosphere and being part of it is an incredible feeling.”
Tsunoda wants to lend a hand
Within Red Bull’s plans, some support for Max Verstappen may also come from his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who seems to have finally found the right feeling with the RB21. “Brazil is always an exciting race,” said the Japanese driver. “The weather can bring unexpected challenges, and it looks like rain could play a big role again this weekend. We’ll all be in the same situation, so it’s about maximizing track time and managing it well as a team.”
Yuki Tsunoda added: “The Sprint format always brings extra challenges, but with a bit of rain it could turn into a crazy weekend. The good thing is that over the last two races, the car has performed really well in race pace. I’ve been running very close to Max, and I feel confident with the car and the updates we’ve introduced. If I can stay consistent in qualifying, we should be in a strong position to fight among the top cars both in the Sprint and in the main race. This weekend I’ll do my best to contribute to the Constructors’ standings and to support Max whenever I can.”
