The head-to-head starts again
Formula 1 returns to Brazil for a weekend that promises high drama and major implications for the title race. The São Paulo Grand Prix will also feature a Sprint race, a format that could further shake up the standings after the latest twist in Mexico, where Lando Norris took over the championship lead by a single point ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen remains third, now only 36 points off the top.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri speak ahead of Interlagos
“I can’t wait to race again at Interlagos,” said Lando Norris while previewing the weekend. “The São Paulo Grand Prix is always a lot of fun, and the city is amazing. It’s also a Sprint weekend, so I’ll be aiming to score the maximum points possible. Last week I was back at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking — we reviewed the last two races and I spent time in the simulator to prepare for Brazil. I feel good and I’m really looking forward to getting back on track.”
Oscar Piastri is also optimistic. After a few quieter races, the Australian is eager to return to the podium — and ideally reclaim the championship lead. “Brazil is a great opportunity to score important points, especially with the Sprint race,” Oscar Piastri said. “Everything is still to play for, and preparation for this weekend has been really productive. It’s a track I enjoy, with its elevation changes and the mix of long straights and tight corners. We’ll also have to keep an eye on the weather, as always in São Paulo.” – the Australian driver concluded ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.
