McLaren may be strong, but Christian Horner still bets on Max Verstappen in 2025. McLaren is expected to be the one to beat, but the real question is who will be able to challenge it.

Max Verstappen, Lando Norris 2024 F1

Formula 1 fans have many questions about the battle at the top in the 2025 season. Will Lewis Hamilton be at his best with Ferrari? Can he challenge Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri for the drivers’ title? Naturally, Ferrari supporters hope that Charles Leclerc will also be in the fight, but it will be a tough challenge.

Despite Ferrari proving competitive in the final stages of last season, many believe McLaren could have the edge in terms of overall car performance. This is not only because the Woking-based team won the 2024 Constructors’ Championship but also because its development path showed consistent progress in terms of performance.

Christian Horner: “In 2024, Verstappen won more than any other competitor”

The British team is expected to be the one to beat, but the real question is who will be able to challenge it. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner addressed this indirectly in an interview reported by ‘GPBlog.com.’

Horner suggests that even if the RB21 turns out to be slower than the MCL20, defeating the four-time world champion will still be extremely difficult. If he had to place a bet, his choice would remain unchanged: “I think McLaren was very strong last season, yet Max still managed to win more individual races than any other driver on the grid. More than twice as many as the next best—Norris won four, while Max reached nine, not counting Sprint Races.”

Horner concluded, “Beating Max will be tough, but we won’t underestimate our rivals. It’s going to be a spectacular championship.”
