As we all know, starting from next Formula 1 season, Adrian Newey will join Aston Martin, where he will find an experienced driver like Fernando Alonso who could be very useful in helping to elevate the English team as quickly as possible.
How Fernando Alonso will help Newey in the “climb”
“There are so many people within the team who are ex-Red Bull and familiar to Adrian, and they will help him,” said Sam Power of Channel 10 – “He’ll think, ‘Great, I know what they’re capable of, I just need someone to translate something unquantifiable, namely the driver: how does he feel? What’s the balance like? How much confidence does he have?’” – he added.
And a driver of Fernando Alonso’s caliber will be incredibly useful for this type of correlation. Adrian Newey couldn’t have found a better person than the Spaniard for this.
“I always enjoy watching Fernando on track. There’s something about the walls that makes him seem fiery. Even looking at the back of his car with various individuals trying to pass him, you can see how dynamic he is in thinking about the race. When Fernando is having fun in the race, that’s when you have a true racing driver. He’s impressive to watch.”
Lawrence Barretto, F1 writer and presenter, also shared his thoughts on the importance of having a driver like Fernando Alonso on the team: “What’s so impressive about Fernando is that, in every session, he pushes the limits of the car. He’s doing what most other drivers haven’t been able to do. This isn’t a criticism of Lance Stroll, but there’s a significant gap between them. I’m sure Fernando isn’t happy with the car he has. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves for a P8 because he aspires to something more. But it’s significant. Now he’s seen McLaren leap forward, Ferrari pulling away, Red Bull and Mercedes far ahead. He’s thinking, ‘When will I get a car like that again?’ They can’t afford to stop developing this year, otherwise, it’ll be harder to find their way next year.” – the Formula 1 writer and presenter concluded.
