Current changes
The future of Red Bull drivers has returned to the spotlight following the dismissal of Daniel Ricciardo from Racing Bulls, with the last six races of the championship set to see the return of New Zealander Liam Lawson. A driver trained in the prestigious Junior Team of the Milton Keynes-based company, which has also confirmed Sergio Perez for the next Formula 1 season, as reiterated by Team Principal Christian Horner.
Helmut Marko pushes for Tim Tramnitz
The underwhelming performances of the Mexican have already sparked rumors of a possible switch between Liam Lawson and Sergio Perez at Red Bull. However, regardless of what actually happens, the Anglo-Austrian team will need to focus on one of its young talents for the future in Formula 1. According to Helmut Marko, that promising driver already has a name: Tim Tramnitz.
The plan
A 19-year-old German who joined the Junior Team this year, Tim Tramnitz finished his first Formula 3 season in 9th place, winning the Sprint Race at Monza. But for Red Bull’s Consultant, he’s the ideal driver to invest in for the future: “With Tim Tramnitz, we had a positive season,” Helmut Marko explained to RTL/ntv, hinting at his future plans. “He will stay in Formula 3 for another year because he simply wasn’t ready for Formula 2 in terms of preparation. But that must clearly be his goal. Then he will move to Formula 2.” – the Red Bull advisor explained.
Future in F1?
Tim Tramnitz will thus remain in the lower categories of the series for at least the next two years, but could he eventually reach Formula 1? “Based on what we’ve seen so far, his performances, and his attitude, I believe we have a serious contender in Tramnitz,” Helmut Marko responded. “But for now, we’re in Formula 3. He’s not the type of person with the typical completeness of a German. He’s, as we say, a bit of a mix. He overtakes very well, but his weak point is qualifying. We need to explain to him that without hard work, regardless of talent, you don’t get to the top. Only a small portion of the finances come from us. He’s fortunate to have other supporters. As I said, he has to work much harder in terms of his overall attitude and take the whole thing seriously. His management is now in talks with several Formula 2 teams, and it looks like he’ll be racing for another team next year. The extent of our involvement is still under discussion.” – Helmut Marko concluded.
