Last F1 Race for Kevin Magnussen?
The Abu Dhabi GP could mark the end of Kevin Magnussen’s Formula 1 career. The Danish driver had seemingly reached the conclusion of his F1 journey at the end of 2020, but geopolitical developments brought him back to the grid unexpectedly at the start of 2022. Even just a few days ago in Qatar, Kevin Magnussen demonstrated that he is a driver who has more than justified his place in the category. At Yas Marina, he will aim to make a final contribution to what would be a remarkable achievement for Haas.
The American team currently sits seventh in the Constructors’ standings, five points behind Alpine, which secured sixth place thanks to Pierre Gasly’s remarkable fifth-place finish in Qatar. “The goal is to get both drivers into the top 10 to have a chance at claiming sixth place in the Constructors’ standings,” stated team principal Ayao Komatsu, who has filled in for Gunther Steiner without missing a beat, and perhaps even exceeded expectations.
“I hope for a great result in my final race with this team,” Kevin Magnussen said. “After losing ground to Alpine in Qatar, we are dreaming of reclaiming sixth place.” Nico Hulkenberg, who will also part ways with Haas after Abu Dhabi, is set to join Sauber-Audi. “We will do everything in our power to finish this chapter on a high note,” the German driver declared.
