The 58 laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix are still to come, but Alpine may have delivered the decisive blow (the use of the conditional remains appropriate) to secure sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Thanks to Pierre Gasly’s fifth-place finish in Qatar, the French team’s advantage has now increased to five and thirteen points over Haas and Racing Bulls, respectively.
A result that gives the French driver back what Las Vegas had taken away after his retirement, which nullified the brilliant third place he had achieved in qualifying. It also allows the Enstone team’s garage to look forward to the final race of the season at the Yas Marina circuit with great optimism: “A fantastic result and an excellent race,” said Pierre Gasly. “I was finally able to take advantage of all the opportunities that came my way. This performance can only bring great confidence to the team ahead of the Abu Dhabi finale.”
The French driver managed to fend off every attack attempt from Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, delivering a performance worthy of the best defender from his beloved Paris Saint-Germain: “A ‘Marquinhos-like’ defense? Yes, though it was very challenging with Carlos behind, as he was very fast. I did everything I could to hold onto the position. I never worried about managing the tires but focused on extracting all the potential from the car.”
