Peace, but not too much
Over the summer, Red Bull seemed to reach a sort of internal truce, aiming not to waste energy and focusing on helping Max Verstappen win his third world championship. It was said that after some very tense moments — even captured by photographers, for example at the Bahrain International Circuit — the relationship between Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen had returned to being acceptable.
However, just a week ago, comments from the former Dutch driver reignited attention on his dissatisfaction with the team principal. Jos’s sharp reflection focused on the departures of long-time team members Adrian Newey, Jonathan Wheatley, and Will Courtenay: “This isn’t good. He always glosses over the issue. Too many have left by now.”
Gunther Steiner surprised
In a recent interview with GPBlog, former Haas team principal Gunther Steiner shared his thoughts on the matter: “I’m a bit confused because usually Christian (Horner) has a very clear vision on these things. I think he should find common ground with Jos so they can speak the same language to help Max win the championship. Right now, they aren’t helping each other.” – the ex-Haas team boss pointed out.
Gunther Steiner then continued, referring to Max Verstappen’s father: “We know that when Jos is frustrated, he can’t keep his mouth shut. I’m not criticizing him for that, but I don’t know if it’s the best thing for his son. However, not knowing the internal dynamics of the team, it’s hard to say who’s right or wrong. I think Jos knows the consequences of his statements to the media because he’s an intelligent person.” – Gunther Steiner concluded.
