Red Bull reorganization
It’s a time of significant changes at Red Bull, as Jos Verstappen predicted earlier this year after his clash with team principal Christian Horner. The reigning world champion team is adapting to numerous departures through a deep internal reorganization, which, at least for now, seems to favor promoting internal figures to roles of increasing responsibility. This will happen, for example, to Hannah Schmitz, promoted to head of team strategy after the departure of Will Courtenay, and has already happened to Gianpiero Lambiase, who will take on some sporting director duties following Jonathan Wheatley’s exit.
Max Verstappen happy for Gianpiero Lambiase
More responsibilities for Max Verstappen’s race engineer, but the champion is not concerned. In fact, knowing that his trusted “GP” (as Gianpiero Lambiase is informally called in the paddock) will continue to support him from the pit wall during race weekends, the three-time world champion welcomed the news of the English technician’s career advancement: “The fact that he has more responsibilities within the team doesn’t worry me. On the contrary, he was already much more than just my race engineer, so I think the promotion was well thought out and essentially distributes the workload better. So, it’s fine by me.”
Max awaits the RB20 developments
One less worry, then, ahead of a season finale that promises to be intense, despite a (for now) comfortable lead in the standings over his friend-rival Lando Norris. Much will depend on the updates that, at least according to Horner’s hopes, should restore the RB20’s competitiveness. Perhaps starting as early as Austin.
“I don’t yet know when the technical updates will arrive or what they will be like,” Max Verstappen told the Formula 1 website, “but we are trying to regain the balance. Already in Baku, we made a small step forward, but now we need to continue in that direction. Obviously, in Singapore, it was hard to gauge much, but hopefully, in the two to three weeks before Austin, we can improve the car. There are still some GPs left on the calendar, and I believe we’ll have the chance to do it, which will also help next year’s car.” – the three-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
