No luck for the Woking team. The FIA dismissed McLaren’s appeal made yesterday, thereby confirming the final result of the United States Grand Prix.
Andrea Stella‘s team exercised its right to request a review, believing that new evidence, unavailable to the stewards at the time of the decision in Austin, could reopen the case.
However, the stewards deemed this new evidence irrelevant, and for that reason, they denied the papaya team’s request.
McLaren’s Disappointment
Following the FIA’s verdict, McLaren expressed its disagreement with the outcome of the appeal on Lando Norris’s penalty.
“We acknowledge the decision of the Stewards to reject our petition requesting a right to review,” the statement read – “We disagree with the interpretation that an FIA document, which makes a competitor aware of an objective, measurable, and demonstrable error in the decision made by the stewards, cannot be an admissible ‘element’ that meets all four criteria established by the ISC, as specified in Article 14.3.”
“We would like to thank the FIA and the stewards for considering this case in a timely manner. We will continue to work closely with the FIA to better understand how teams can constructively contest decisions that lead to an incorrect race classification.”
The Championship Chase Resumes
With the United States GP now definitively closed, Lando Norris must immediately resume his pursuit of Max Verstappen. The points lost at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin have extended the gap between the two in the standings to 57 points.
Red Bull seems to have gotten back on track. However, the MCL38 single-seater has all the potential necessary to allow the English driver to stay ahead of the reigning world champion. The world title comeback is a daunting challenge, bordering on impossible, but in Woking, they’re determined not to give up.
