Aston Martin is investing significant energy into its 2026 Formula 1 project, hoping to once again taste the success experienced in early 2023. The team’s most important asset is not only the new facility but also Adrian Newey, who has been working for months on the new car; perhaps even the English genius’s touch won’t be enough to revive the team’s fortunes, but everyone at the Silverstone campus is hopeful.
Fernando Alonso will be at the forefront of the battle. Despite entering his 23rd Formula 1 season next year, the Spaniard shows no signs of slowing down. Andy Cowell explained to the media, as also reported by RacingNews365, that every time he talks with Fernando Alonso about upgrades, the driver looks at him as if to ask whether they will compromise next year’s car. Andy Cowell replied that everything is focused on 2026. He added that while they have already discussed their long-term goals, for now they are determined to give their best with the regulation change.
“We will have three different tests next January to try the car, power unit, oil, transmission, and fuel. Then there will be more tests in February. Our main challenge will be moving from a customer team to a constructor; there are many projects underway regarding this, as well as several discussions with Honda to align their power unit with the project desired by Adrian. It’s a great way to stay busy,” the team principal added.
