The anticipation for next year is high, not only to see what the new regulations will mean in terms of on-track hierarchies, but also to find out whether Adrian Newey, after his failed move to Ferrari, will be able to lead Aston Martin to the top by 2026.
The British engineer, after leaving Red Bull at the end of last year, decided to join Lawrence Stroll’s project. This decision surprised many insiders who were certain of his arrival at Maranello alongside Lewis Hamilton. However, as happened in the past, Newey preferred to stay in the UK to be close to his family during what will likely be the final major stage of his career.
Cowell reveals the “Newey method”
Just a few weeks before the start of the “Newey project,” the first details of the working method of the former Red Bull engineer have emerged. “We made sure that he found an ideal working environment upon his arrival. He immediately started organizing meetings to discuss the new regulations and the concepts we were working on, defining deadlines for producing the new car,” said Andy Cowell. “He got to work straight away with the engineers, sketching at his desk. Now he’s in that phase where all the fundamental parts are being designed. Anyone who passes by Adrian’s office says he’s always drawing. He doesn’t attend meetings, he doesn’t respond to emails, he just draws a fast car, and we trust him blindly,” added the Aston Martin Team Principal.
“We’re pushing hard, trying to grow as a team and developing new tools to help us. We’re working very hard to have a fast car in 2026,” Cowell concluded.
Certainly, there is a lot of work to do at Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll‘s team is struggling in the early part of 2025, with much of their attention already focused on next year. The big question now is whether Adrian Newey’s contribution will be enough to secure that world title, which has been the team’s declared goal for some time.
