F1 | Red Bull introduces new wavy front wing profile on RB22
During the second session of the Bahrain F1 tests, the Milton Keynes team brought a new main front wing profile for the RB22. Unlike the previous perfectly straight leading edge, the new design features two raised curves. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar was forced into a long pit stop due to a serious hydraulic issue.
Hadjar debuts new front wing
Isack Hadjar was the Red Bull driver tasked with starting the second test session in Bahrain. On the RB22, he debuted a new front wing, a modification that is immediately noticeable. Last week, the main element was perfectly straight, but now the leading edge is wavy, with two slightly raised sections. The second element remains completely flat, while only the third has an incidence angle.
Details of the RB22 updates
The Milton Keynes team has also kept the lower part of the endplate highly twisted, connecting it to the footplate to enhance the continuity of the main profile, almost as if the lower endplate were absent. Additionally, two small flaps have been mounted on the sides of the engine cover, following a path pioneered by Ferrari.
Hydraulic issues halt progress
Isack Hadjar has been focusing on car setup as Red Bull searches for a new performance-oriented baseline. However, he was forced into a long stop in the garage due to a hydraulic system problem, which is keeping the mechanics fully occupied with a challenging repair. The issue is serious, as team personnel work behind a screen to block external view of the repairs.
As the Milton Keynes outfit works frantically to get the RB22 back on track, the focus remains on whether these bold aerodynamic updates can deliver the projected downforce gains. The wavy front wing represents a significant departure from their initial design, proving that the technical war is well underway even before the first green light in Melbourne. If Red Bull can solve the hydraulic gremlins, the potential of this new aerodynamic platform will be the main story of the coming days.
