Alonso named ‘Driver of the Day’ in Singapore after strong performance
Fernando Alonso finished seventh at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, satisfied with both his performance and the pace of his Aston Martin. The Spanish driver’s weekend in Marina Bay began on a high note, surprisingly setting the fastest lap in FP1. From that moment, Alonso remained consistently in the top ten, engaging in impressive overtakes and battles that ultimately earned him the title of ‘Driver of the Day’.
A position improved after the race
Fernando Alonso’s final position was actually revised after the race due to a penalty handed to Lewis Hamilton for exceeding track limits, which had affected Fernando Alonso directly in the closing laps. Initially frustrated with his former McLaren teammate, Fernando Alonso moved up to seventh place and commented on his performance: “We had a strong race and the car behaved well. I enjoy racing here; it’s also very physically demanding. We showed good pace in both stints, and the team made a good call on the medium tires, which allowed us to recover after a slow pit stop. Hopefully, we can continue to score points in the remaining races of the season.”
Stroll struggles to score points
Fernando Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll had a much tougher weekend, finishing 13th and a lap down on race winner George Russell. A less effective strategy and limited overtaking opportunities contributed to his disappointing result. Stroll explained: “There weren’t many opportunities for us. We tried to wait for a Safety Car that never came. We managed to run the soft tires for 38 laps, but the medium tires in the second stint degraded faster than expected due to traffic, overheating, and battles with other cars. We could have done better, but we gave it our best and will continue to try. Now we look ahead to Texas in two weeks.”
