Russell tells Wolff: “I’m a different driver now. I feel ready for the title”
George Russell enjoyed his second victory of the 2025 season in Singapore, a triumph that carried a sweet sense of revenge. Back in 2023 on the same track, the British driver experienced one of the worst moments of his career, crashing into the wall on the final lap while in third position as he attempted to challenge Lando Norris, who was running second at the time and closely following Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, which was leading and strategically granting DRS to protect itself from George Russell.
A perfect weekend in Singapore
This time, George Russell delivered a flawless performance: he took pole position on Saturday, executed a clean start, and led the race from start to finish, losing the lead only during two laps for pit stops. The race was yet another demonstration of maturity in what is shaping up to be the best season of his career so far. Speaking at the post-race press conference, Russell emphasized that he is a very different driver compared to two years ago and sent what appeared to be a clear message to Toto Wolff, especially considering his contract has not yet been renewed.
Ready to fight for the championship
“This circuit has not always been my friend over the years, and often it was my own fault,” George Russell told journalists. “But today I feel like a completely different driver compared to a couple of years ago. I feel more complete, more confident. I know exactly what I need to do in certain situations. Of course, I was nervous before the race, as anyone would be, but I didn’t feel any unusual tension or extra pressure. It just felt like any other race. I knew I had a chance to win, and I felt comfortable. Now I feel ready to fight for the championship. I feel ready to take the next step.”
