Alonso: “My future? I’ll decide during the summer, but I won’t stop racing”
Fernando Alonso has once again spoken about his future and what lies ahead once his remarkable Formula 1 career eventually comes to an end.
The two-time Formula 1 World Champion is currently evaluating his options for the 2027 season, particularly after Aston Martin’s difficult start to the campaign, which has left the Silverstone-based team struggling towards the back of the field.
The Spaniard explained that he plans to use the summer break to make a final decision about his future. However, he made it clear that leaving Formula 1 would not mean the end of his motorsport career.
“I still have several challenges ahead of me, most of them related to motorsport,” Fernando Alonso told the media. “I want to win the Dakar. I’ve said it many times: I’d also like to win in other categories or challenge myself again in endurance racing, perhaps even alongside Max one day.”
Since joining Aston Martin in 2023, Fernando Alonso has always envisioned a long-term future with the Silverstone-based team, extending beyond his role as a driver.
“When I stop racing, I’d like to stay with the team in a different role and try to help,” he explained. “I’ve been in Formula 1 for 26 years, and I think I can make an important contribution. I’m probably one of the most experienced drivers in the team.” – the former Ferrari and McLaren driver added.
To conclude, the Spaniard reiterated his desire to remain actively involved in motorsport.
“I believe I still have a lot to offer. I’d rather put my experience to good use than stay at home watching TV.”
