Zak Brown doesn’t rule out Verstappen interest, but there’s one condition
The British Grand Prix could prove to be the point of no return in the relationship between Max Verstappen and Red Bull. Tensions had already been building since the start of the season due to the RB22’s disappointing performance under a set of regulations that has left the four-time World Champion increasingly frustrated.
However, the last two Grands Prix appear to have pushed the situation even further, with technical failures that reportedly put the Dutch driver’s safety at risk. At the end of the race, television cameras captured Max Verstappen walking quickly back to his room without speaking to Laurent Mekies, while appearing visibly frustrated in front of his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.
These growing tensions have only intensified speculation about a possible move to McLaren. Even so, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown was in no rush to fuel those rumors during a recent appearance on the UpToSpeed podcast.
“I’ve got two fantastic drivers, but if I had a third seat, I’d sign him in a heartbeat. Right now, I couldn’t be happier with Lando and Oscar. Last year we won 14 races and fought for the World Championship until the very end. They get along well, there’s a great atmosphere in the garage and I don’t want to make any changes.
“But if something unexpected happened, or if something went wrong, I’d certainly think about it. Every team’s objective is to have the best driver and give them the best car. Max is an incredible talent, but Lando and Oscar have shown that they can beat him,” the American CEO said.
