On Tuesday evening, they played the role of James Bond at the lavish event held at London’s O2 Arena, where F1 celebrated its 75th anniversary. However, on that occasion, Alonso and Stroll had not yet seen the AMR25 up close, as the Silverstone team had only revealed its livery.
The official presentation was scheduled for late Sunday afternoon, on the eve of the filming day in Sakhir, Bahrain, where Aston Martin will share the track with Mercedes, which will debut the W16 immediately after unveiling it. More importantly, on Wednesday, Aston Martin will get a clearer sense of its potential during the three-day collective test leading up to the season opener in mid-March in Australia.
Lawrence Stroll’s team kept things simple for the launch of the 2025 car, the last based on the current regulations and not yet bearing the signature of design guru Adrian Newey. The team released a press statement along with the first images, ahead of the car’s on-track debut tomorrow in Sakhir. This also provided an opportunity for the drivers to share their first impressions.
Fernando Alonso, now in his third season with the team and his 22nd in Formula 1, hopes this year will mark a resurgence after a disappointing 2024 that fell short of the high expectations set by a strong 2023.
“We learned a lot in 2024, and the team has used that experience as a driving force to approach this season with the AMR25. The competition will be very tight this year, in the final season under the current regulations, but I know the team has worked hard at the Aston Martin Racing Technology Campus to make sure we are ready. I’m excited to get back on track; I’m ready to help this team grow stronger and continue this journey with Aston Martin Aramco,” said Alonso.
Lance Stroll, the son of the team owner, has been part of Aston Martin since its rebranding, but his career appears to be in decline. His 13th-place finish in last year’s standings, with only 24 points—about a third of his teammate’s tally of 70, despite a difficult season—reflects this trend.
“Everyone at the Aston Martin Racing Technology Campus has worked hard over the winter to improve for 2025. As a team, we all want good results and will keep learning throughout the year. What we are building is an exciting project with great tools and talented people, and 2025 is a crucial year for making progress. I’m looking forward to the new season and getting back in the car, starting with pre-season testing in Bahrain,” added Lance Stroll.
