In recent months, Christian Horner’s team has experienced a significant downturn. In 2024, a key figure, Adrian Newey, departed from Red Bull. Following this announcement, several team members reportedly started looking elsewhere, aware that the team’s period of dominance might be coming to an end. Horner explained the reason behind these rumors.
According to Christian Horner, these speculations have been spread by rival teams, and he wanted to set the record straight. “It’s important to remember that in 2024, we were coming off a season—2023—where we didn’t just dominate, we annihilated the competition, winning 22 out of 23 races.”
While Max Verstappen’s third title-winning season was nearly flawless for Horner’s team, the same cannot be said for the following year. Red Bull’s 2024 campaign began amid off-track controversies and unfolded in a tense atmosphere. This was compounded by a noticeable drop in performance compared to rival teams.
A tactic from the opposition
As mentioned, the idea that Red Bull employees want to leave was spread by Zak Brown. According to Christian Horner, this is a strategy McLaren has used to try to destabilize the Austrian team.
“Other teams will use every tool at their disposal to try to unsettle a team that has been enormously successful,” said the Red Bull team principal.
In addition to these external provocations, internal issues have also caused difficulties for the team. The Horner case has created a rift within the Red Bull garage, though Horner emphasized that the professionalism of the employees has allowed the team to keep working towards its goal of winning the championship.
“In this business, you always have to stay focused on your beliefs and passions,” Christian Horner stated, reiterating the strong dedication to work within the Red Bull garage.
