Aston Martin concluded the 2024 Formula 1 season with fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship and understandable disappointment within the team.
The investments by the group led by Lawrence Stroll have been significant, but the results have been sporadic and primarily evident in previous seasons.
This is why Lawrence Stroll, in recent months, has continued to invest, securing the services of Enrico Cardile from Ferrari and, most notably, Adrian Newey.
The team owners have realized how challenging it is to rise through the ranks in Formula 1. It’s always about investments, of course, but also about choices and time. After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso assessed the situation, expressing confidence in the future while emphasizing that the team should take lessons from what McLaren has achieved over the past two seasons.
Starting from the back of the grid in 2023, the team led by Andrea Stella staged a remarkable recovery, culminating in winning the Constructors’ Championship in just 24 months—a title that had eluded Woking for 26 years.
“The last two races finishing in the points are definitely a good way to end on a positive note. After the pointless races in Austin/Mexico/Brazil, I now think we can reset, learn from all the difficulties and mistakes of this year, and apply them to next year’s project,” said Fernando.
“The coming months will be very interesting, with Enrico Cardile joining the team, Adrian Newey arriving in March or April, and the new 2026 regulations, along with Honda entering the team. These are exciting times, and I’m happy to be part of the team during this transition phase and this exciting project, enjoying every part of the process.”
In addition to new personnel, new facilities are also being activated. These, too, must provide the team with a solid foundation for building future successes.
“I think the new factory has been completed, and the new wind tunnel will also open soon. Andy Cowell has already addressed some of the weaknesses he identified in the team, so we trust the new management. I believe things are moving in the right direction, and I’m happy about that.”
“But in Formula 1, there aren’t many miracles: you have to be patient, identify the car’s strengths, and find the upgrade that truly unlocks everything in these ground-effect cars. As McLaren demonstrated last year, they started at the back and then won races mid-season. We need to learn from them. It’s a good example of how things can be done, and we’ll aim to reset this winter to come back stronger.”
