F1 rumors denied: no agreement between Max Verstappen and Mercedes, says Dutch journalist. Rumors about Max Verstappen joining Mercedes are firmly denied by Dutch journalist Erik van Haren.

Max Verstappen, 2024 F1

The rumors linking Max Verstappen to a move to Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team have been firmly denied. Speculation had intensified in recent days, with several sources suggesting that a potential agreement between the reigning World Champion and the Brackley-based team was nearing completion. However, Dutch journalist Erik van Haren has categorically dismissed those reports, stating that there is no official offer on the table from Mercedes, and most importantly, Max Verstappen himself has not expressed any willingness to leave Red Bull Racing.

In a statement posted on his official social media channels, van Haren explained: “There are many stories and rumors about Max Verstappen and Mercedes. The interest from Mercedes is real and has been known for a while, but according to the information I have, there is no official offer and Verstappen has not said ‘yes’ to anything.”

Van Haren, a respected motorsport journalist for the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and someone known to be very close to the Verstappen family, emphasized that there has been no significant change in the situation compared to previous weeks. His comments serve as a reliable reference, particularly in matters concerning Max Verstappen’s career and inner circle.

Negotiations Between Mercedes and Verstappen: Reality or Just Speculation?
The interest shown by Mercedes in Max Verstappen is not new. Team Principal Toto Wolff has previously made no secret of his ambition to begin a new winning era starting in the 2026 Formula 1 season, ideally with the reigning World Champion driving the car and carrying the prestigious number 1 on the chassis. However, according to Erik van Haren, these ambitions have not yet materialized into any formal discussions or concrete negotiations.

This denial comes at a particularly intense moment in the Formula 1 driver market, commonly known as the “silly season”, when speculation and rumors about potential moves are at their peak. Every decision and statement is being scrutinized, and while the idea of Max Verstappen leaving Oracle Red Bull Racing for Mercedes remains an intriguing scenario, there are currently no credible signs of an impending split between the Dutch driver and his current team.

Meanwhile, Mercedes is currently focusing its internal efforts on finalizing a contract renewal with George Russell and preparing for the gradual integration of highly regarded junior driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is expected to play a key role in the team’s long-term plans. On the other side, Red Bull Racing is facing its own challenges, including managing the future of legendary aerodynamicist Adrian Newey and dealing with the increasing competitiveness of Aston Martin‘s ambitious Formula 1 project.

At present, Max Verstappen remains fully committed to Red Bull Racing, and despite the ongoing speculation, all reliable indicators suggest that no imminent team switch is on the horizon.
