Carlo Vanzini left no room for doubt after the Mexico City Grand Prix: Max Verstappen no longer has a real chance of winning the 2025 Formula 1 drivers’ championship. The season appears to be taking a clearer direction, with Lando Norris and McLaren looking unstoppable, while Max Verstappen’s dominance is faltering like never before. The legendary voice of Sky Sport F1 delivered a blunt assessment of the Dutch driver’s current situation.
“Given how things stand,” Carlo Vanzini explained post-race, “McLaren is superior everywhere, on any track. Perhaps only Las Vegas could bring some surprises, but otherwise, I don’t think Verstappen has a real chance to turn the tables.”
The commentator then offered a clear but harsh analysis of the remaining four races in the championship: “The only hope for him might come from weather conditions or unexpected incidents during the races. Under normal circumstances, he doesn’t have a chance to win. That said, it’s still Max: if anyone can pull off the impossible, it’s him.”
This statement perfectly captures Red Bull’s current uncertainty, struggling in performance compared to a McLaren that is clearly in exceptional form. Lando Norris, growing in confidence and showing devastating race pace, has minimized any room for error and is now targeting the world title directly. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri is still trying to regain his rhythm with his McLaren, while his teammate has just stolen the championship lead.
After years of absolute dominance, Max Verstappen now finds himself chasing the unstoppable MCL39 ‘Papaya’. The paddock is left wondering: is the era of “Super Max” truly over, or will the four-time world champion manage to surprise us once again?
