New appointments are underway at the Alpine Formula 1 team, including the arrival of a new managing director. Alongside this important leadership role, several other key positions have been filled as the team prepares for an internal restructuring aimed at improving performance both on and off the track.
Flavio Briatore has officially returned to the world of Formula 1 through his new role with the Alpine F1 Team, where he has already begun shaping the team’s future by selecting his closest collaborators. Among the most significant appointments is that of Steve Nielsen, a well-known figure in the paddock who previously worked with the French team and is now ready to return. In addition to Nielsen, Alpine has also announced the arrival of new professionals who will take charge of aerodynamic development and global marketing efforts.
The announcements were made during the 2025 British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, where Alpine outlined the strategic changes that will take place over the course of the current Formula 1 season. As already mentioned, Steve Nielsen will be working closely with Flavio Briatore to oversee the team’s operations and management. However, this appointment will not take effect immediately. The former Sporting Director of Renault will officially begin his duties starting from September 1st, 2025.
Steve Nielsen will not be the only one making a return to the Enstone-based team. Kris Midgley has also been re-hired and will now serve as Head of Aerodynamic Development. Midgley previously worked with the Renault team before continuing his career at Scuderia Ferrari, where he contributed to the aerodynamics department. His return is seen as a valuable addition to Alpine’s technical division, bringing with him a wealth of experience from two prominent Formula 1 teams.
Finally, Alpine has announced the appointment of Guy Martin as the new Global Marketing Director. Unlike the other hires, Martin’s role is focused not on the technical aspects of racing but rather on strengthening the team’s brand visibility, sponsorship portfolio, and commercial partnerships. He joins Alpine from the Faenza-based team, previously known as AlphaTauri.
The official statement released by Alpine explains the rationale behind Martin’s hiring. “He worked at Visa, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the brand’s sponsorship and partnership strategy. He led high-level negotiations with rights holders, managed on-site activations and operational execution, and oversaw the commercialisation of key properties such as the Visa CashApp RB Formula 1 Team, FIFA, the Olympic Games, the NFL International Series, Disney, the Africa Cup of Nations, and the FIA Formula E World Championship. In his previous role at Visa, Guy Martin also introduced new entertainment sectors—such as music and gaming—into the brand’s portfolio, with the goal of increasing engagement among fans and customers while attracting a younger and broader audience.”
These strategic hires reflect Alpine’s ambition to reinforce its leadership structure and technical capabilities, while also expanding its global marketing reach in an increasingly competitive Formula 1 environment.
