Alpine finds itself in a deepening crisis. The team currently sits at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship with just 11 points, trailing ninth-place Sauber by 15 points. The 2025 Formula 1 season has not started well for the Enstone-based squad, and as the championship approaches its halfway point, concern is mounting inside the team. Over the last five races, Alpine has scored points only once—when Pierre Gasly finished eighth at the Spanish Grand Prix.
In Austria, the struggles continued for both drivers. Pierre Gasly, who had qualified tenth, fell back to finish thirteenth, while teammate Franco Colapinto, who started from 14th on the grid, dropped a position and ended the race in 15th. The disappointing performance reflects a clear and ongoing crisis, a sentiment echoed by Flavio Briatore, who is now acting as the de facto team principal after Oliver Oakes’ resignation.
“The situation is worrying.” Briatore also questions driver performance
Speaking to media in Austria, Flavio Briatore did not hide his frustration with Alpine’s current form. “We’ve lost ground to our direct rivals in the championship after yet another race without scoring points, and frankly, this level of performance is increasingly worrying,” he said. His remarks referred in particular to Sauber, which managed to place both Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto in the top 10, delivering a significant blow to Alpine.
Flavio Briatore also hinted at dissatisfaction with the drivers’ overall performance. “Yesterday the car was quick, and we should have comfortably had both cars in Q3,” said the Italian manager, taking what appeared to be a veiled shot at rookie Franco Colapinto. “Sunday, however, tells a very different story for us, and it’s important to understand why—especially if we want to turn the season around from this very difficult position.”
