Isack Hadjar has expressed a strong curiosity to experience the Red Bull RB21 firsthand, despite the car’s recent struggles, while reaffirming that his long-term goal remains to drive for the Red Bull Racing team in Formula 1.
Isack Hadjar, widely considered one of the most promising rookie drivers of the current Formula 1 season, has had an impressive start to his campaign. The young French driver is currently racing for the Visa CashApp Racing Bulls, Red Bull’s junior team, and is steadily positioning himself as a serious candidate for a future seat in the main Red Bull Racing team, where he would potentially take the wheel of the RB21.
Despite the ongoing difficulties surrounding the RB21 car, which has shown signs of inconsistency and performance issues, Isack Hadjar admitted he would be very eager to observe the car up close. His curiosity stems not only from professional interest but also from the desire to understand why the car has proven to be so difficult to drive for current Red Bull Racing drivers.
At present, Isack Hadjar continues to perform strongly with the Racing Bulls team, even managing to finish several races ahead of the second RB21 driven by Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda. These results have sparked speculation about a potential mid-season switch, with some rumors suggesting that Isack Hadjar could replace Tsunoda at Red Bull. However, when these rumors first emerged, Hadjar was quick to state that he would not feel ready for such a sudden promotion to the senior team mid-season.
Speaking during the 2025 British Grand Prix weekend, Isack Hadjar acknowledged that he would be intrigued to find out just how difficult the RB21 really is to handle.
The French driver emphasized that since signing with the Red Bull Junior Driver Programme four years ago, his ultimate objective has always been to secure a seat at Red Bull Racing in Formula 1. He stressed that this goal has never changed.
“When I signed the contract with Red Bull four years ago, the objective was to make it to the main Red Bull team,” Isack Hadjar stated. “So nothing has changed in that regard.”
He added, “The RB21 is definitely interesting. I’d really love, out of curiosity, to go and take a look at it up close and try to understand it better.”
Despite growing speculation around his future, the Red Bull Racing Team, based in Milton Keynes, has remained firm in its stance that Yuki Tsunoda will stay with the team through the end of the 2025 season, even though the Japanese driver has at times failed to meet the team’s performance expectations.
Isack Hadjar, on his part, admitted that remaining with the Racing Bulls team is currently the most logical step for his development as a Formula 1 driver.
“At the moment, I don’t have full control over the situation,” Isack Hadjar explained. “I keep scoring points every weekend, but there’s still a lot to learn. That’s why it makes more sense to stay where I am right now.”
While Isack Hadjar believes he is mentally prepared to compete at the highest level—even against three-time World Champion Max Verstappen—he acknowledges that it remains unclear whether he possesses the driving skills necessary to match the Dutch superstar on the racetrack.
“That’s what puts you on the back foot from the start of the weekend,” Hadjar commented. “He finds the rhythm so quickly. He’s incredibly explosive. He gets into the zone straight away, and you’re always trying to catch up and match his lap times.”
“Mentally, I’m ready to take on someone like Max Verstappen. If there’s one thing I’m really good at, it’s mental strength. That’s something I’m confident about. But do I have Verstappen’s driving ability? I don’t know yet. That’s the real question,” the Racing Bulls driver concluded.
