A Complicated Lead-Up
The first Grand Prix of the 2025 Formula 1 season, scheduled for next week in Australia, will be a special moment not only for Formula 1 fans but especially for Jack Doohan’s career. For the 22-year-old Alpine driver, it will mark his official debut in the Circus after last year’s race in Abu Dhabi, made even more significant by the support of his home crowd.
However, the lead-up to this championship has been far from easy for the son of Mick Doohan, a five-time world champion in MotoGP. As of now, Jack Doohan’s future in Formula 1 is highly uncertain due to the presence of Franco Colapinto in the team. The Argentine could take his seat during the season if the Australian’s performances fail to convince Alpine’s management, with Flavio Briatore strongly believing in the potential of the former Williams junior.
Continuous Social Media Abuse
This situation alone is enough to put pressure on Jack Doohan, but in recent months, it has been worsened by disturbing off-track incidents. Specifically, numerous social media posts from Colapinto’s Argentine ‘fans’ have wished accidents and injuries upon Jack Doohan, hoping to prevent him from racing. Alpine has also intervened, removing many posts containing insults directed at both their driver and the team itself.
Argentine media have urged their compatriots to stop these relentless attacks against the Australian driver, and now Franco Colapinto’s own manager, Jamie Campbell-Walter, has joined the call. On X, the former Scottish driver emphasized that these insults not only harm Jack Doohan but also Franco Colapinto himself: “The haters insulting Jack and the team, thinking they are helping Franco, are actually hurting him more than helping him,” he commented. “Franco and all of us supporting him are fans of the whole team, of Pierre and Jack. Be passionate, but not insulting or arrogant. Franco’s time will come, but behaving like this will only have the opposite effect.” – he concluded.
