Max Verstappen, the pillar of Red Bull
Once again this year, Max Verstappen is the soul of Red Bull, capable not only of driving the team forward but also of pushing it beyond its limits. It’s no coincidence that after the disastrous Bahrain GP—where Red Bull stood out for numerous pit stop blunders that sparked the anger of both #1 and his manager—the pit stops and strategies in Jeddah were flawless.
Super Max is, after all, the reference point for a team that would be lost in the midfield (if not further back) without his talent on track. The first to acknowledge this are Red Bull’s own leaders, starting with team principal Chris Horner, who says watching Max Verstappen in action gives the same feeling of perfection as witnessing Roger Federer, one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
Christian Horner’s comments
“We’ve been fortunate to have had some very talented drivers here, including a four-time world champion like Sebastian Vettel. However, I believe Max is another step beyond. Max is certainly the greatest driver on the grid at the moment, and now he must be talked about as one of the all-time greats in this sport,” said the Briton to the BBC. “He has all the abilities to break many records: it will depend on us giving him the tools to do so, and on him and how long he stays in F1.” – the Red bull team boss pointed out.
“For me, watching him drive is a bit like seeing Roger Federer hit a tennis ball at the peak of his abilities. He does it with such precision and timing. The first sector in Jeddah is a joy to watch: he’s totally confident in himself and extracts every last thousandth of performance.”
