Sebastian Vettel, family comes before F1
Sebastian Vettel will not return to the Formula 1 grid. The four-time world champion, who retired at the end of 2022, wants to enjoy the family peace he had to sacrifice for many years due to his commitments in the paddock.
The German driver intends to focus on his personal projects (he wants to dedicate himself to farming) and stay close to his three children, who are the first to want their father at home. By implicitly admitting that he had thought about a Formula 1 comeback, the former Ferrari driver has definitively ruled it out—at least in a driving role.
Sebastian Vettel’s words
“My children told me I can’t race anymore. They really enjoy having me around, and obviously that’s a beautiful thing to hear. I’ve managed to find balance outside Formula 1 and I’ve gotten used to my new life,” he told Germany’s Sky Sports. “The family harmony is still there, and I’ve learned a lot about myself during this time. I’m very happy and I’m not bored.”
In response to Helmut Marko, who named him as a possible successor in his consultancy role at Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel didn’t rule out a return to the paddock: “These are important questions that don’t have quick answers. We’ll see if it happens.” In short, there could still be motors in Sebastian Vettel’s future. In 2023, news emerged of talks with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali about a potential role related to sustainability—an option Vettel hasn’t dismissed: “We’re exploring what that could look like. But I don’t want to impose myself.” – the former Ferrari and Aston Martin driver concluded.
