Carlos Sainz’s feedback after first run with Williams FW46: “Crazy” – VIDEO. Carlos Sainz described his feelings behind the wheel of the Williams FW46.

Carlos Sainz, Williams, 2024 F1

Carlos Sainz faced his first days as a Williams driver immediately after the conclusion of the 2024 F1 season. After making his debut with the Grove team on filming day that Monday, he joined other drivers and teams for the Pirelli tire tests. In a video released by Williams on their social media channels, Carlos Sainz provided his feedback to the engineers about the FW46.

Carlos Sainz described his first outing with Williams as “crazy” after experiencing “a completely different car.” However, he expressed confidence in his ability to help the team “fine-tune” the new F1 season.

The comments of the former Ferrari driver emerged in a video posted by Williams on YouTube, which documented the behind-the-scenes moments of the Spanish driver’s first day with the team during the post-season test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. After receiving permission from Ferrari to participate in the test, Carlos Sainz hit the track wearing a simple white suit, boots, and helmet, with no distinguishing markings except for his name on the suit strap and the number “55” on his helmet.

Positive Comments After the First Laps on Track
During the debriefing with the engineers, one team member remarked, “Seems like the first day of school, huh?” Carlos Sainz replied, “Yes, a completely different car. It’s crazy! Even the throttle pedal. You can feel the steering column a bit more.”

Carlos Sainz then discussed technical details regarding the car: “I’d like to go over in more detail with you the front and rear sliding during my lap and the differential opening, especially when I back off the throttle.” One of the engineers responded, “Interesting comment.” Carlos Sainz added, “It seems to have a bit of a delay on the closure speed.”

Paying tribute to the work of former driver Franco Colapinto, Carlos Sainz said, “With Franco’s tools, you can brake a bit later. I’m happy.” He then emphasized the importance of analyzing the data: “I need to see in the data what I feel in the car because I think if I can see what I’m feeling, I can help you a lot with the setup. We’re talking about setup. The last setups have worked well for me.”
