Not just Lewis Hamilton, but also Kimi Antonelli is ready for his debut with Mercedes: here’s when and where the Italian driver will get behind the wheel of the Brackley-based team’s car. With the start of the upcoming F1 season fast approaching, drivers are beginning to hit the track.
After discovering the date of the seven-time world champion’s debut with Ferrari, Italy (and beyond) is now focusing on the homegrown talent. The excitement grows for Kimi Antonelli, who will bring the Italian flag back to Formula 1 drivers.
When will Kimi Antonelli take to the track with Mercedes?
The driver from Bologna will be on track in Jerez with the two Haas cars of Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon on February 15 and 16. These will be part of the Testing Historic Cars event, which involves cars older than two years, unlike normal tests.
Antonelli will be given the Mercedes W11, the car with which Hamilton won his seventh world championship. Not only that, but the W11 is also the car that secured Mercedes a constructors’ championship. The choice fell on this car because it would be the last one eligible for these special tests, which have no time limits. The cars from subsequent years would be restricted by time limits.
This choice allows Mercedes and Kimi Antonelli to make the most of the time before the Bahrain tests. Of course, the 2025 car will be very different, but any time spent driving an F1 car is always useful and necessary. So, not only is Hamilton getting closer to his start with Ferrari, but Kimi Antonelli is also gearing up for the new season.
