Aston Martin isn’t performing well
After a strong start to 2023, Aston Martin began a slow technical decline that has led them to start this season at the back of the grid. The team is currently in seventh place in the constructors’ standings with just 10 points from three races. Seeing Fernando Alonso still on zero points, increasingly gloomy and disheartened in interviews, perfectly reflects the difficulties the British team is facing.
As is known, Aston Martin is focusing all its efforts on the 2026 Formula 1 regulation change, which will bring them the Honda power unit and a project signed by a trio of top-tier engineers: Adrian Newey, Andy Cowell, and Enrico Cardile. This season, therefore, will be a long wait, although the team is somewhat hopeful about upcoming updates. These updates will be developed in the brand-new wind tunnel at Silverstone and may be ready for the Imola race in mid-May, aiming to address the car’s chronic aerodynamic efficiency issues.
The boss gets angry
In such a complex situation, it’s natural that behind-the-scenes rumors and speculations about Aston Martin surface, such as the one reported by German outlet Motorsport-Total: “After disappointing race weekends, Lawrence Stroll vents his anger in the factory.”
There have been widespread rumors about Adrian Newey’s involvement to steer the AMR25 project in the right direction. However, Fernando Alonso played down these hopes during the Suzuka weekend: “I think he’s more focused on the car for next year. I’m sure he’s following the races and meetings at the factory, but I’m not aware of any major ideas from Newey for this year’s car.”
