Aston Martin AMR25: the air intake between Halo and Cobra is curious. Aston Martin is testing a curious solution in Bahrain.

Aston Martin AMR25, 2025 F1

Aston Martin caught the attention of observers on the AMR25 not so much for its performance on the first day of collective testing, but for a curious solution developed by Enrico Cardile’s staff near the Halo attachment to the chassis.

The aerodynamicists at Silverstone, who are still working in Mercedes’ wind tunnel in Brackley because their new facility at the Technology Campus is not operational yet, as it’s still being calibrated, have found a new spot to open an air intake for the Mercedes power unit.

It’s a spot not easily visible because the intake is hidden behind the vertical flap, which carries the Cobra concept introduced last year by Ferrari.

According to rumors, in that specific area between the Halo and the Cobra, there are losses, meaning bothersome turbulence, which are sucked into the cooling intake for the radiators that the Silverstone car has positioned above the 6-cylinder turbo.

Aston Martin’s attempt, therefore, is to combine two effects into one solution. The tests in Bahrain will have to confirm the validity of this concept, which also has the option of a closed intake.
