Andy Cowell: “We don’t want to stifle Newey’s creativity. We want to win, but it takes time”. Andy Cowell to give Adrian Newey and his supporting team full freedom on the AMR26.

Andy Cowell, Aston Martin Team Principal

Adrian Newey at the Heart of Aston Martin’s Project
The new Aston Martin revolves around the genius of Adrian Newey. It could not be otherwise after Lawrence Stroll’s massive effort to bring the British designer— a key figure in Red Bull’s success in the current generation of cars— into his team.

In an organization like Aston Martin, which has only recently been structuring itself both at the managerial and technical levels, having undisputed reference points is crucial: Newey will be one for the car’s design, while CEO and newly appointed team principal Andy Cowell will be one for track operations. The former Mercedes figure believes it is essential to have a leaner organization capable of embracing and implementing Newey’s ideas to elevate Aston Martin in 2026, though the former Red Bull engineer has also made himself available to work on the AMR25.

Andy Cowell’s comments
“Adrian is highly competitive and creative: as a team, we need to harness his talent, not stifle it,” the Briton told Sky Sports UK.

“We are working hard as a team. We believe that by working this way, we will keep getting faster. We want to win races, we want to win championships, we would love to see our drivers finish first and second in the World Championship. That is the dream, but we have to be realistic: we recognize that our competitors are exceptionally strong, so we must set ambitious goals, both in terms of performance and the time needed to achieve them.” – Aston Martin’s new team principal concluded with just a few days ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.
