Aston Martin seeks an early breakthrough
Aston Martin has clearly identified the year to take a big step forward and realize the dreams of owner Lawrence Stroll after years of massive investments. That year is 2026, the season of F1’s revolution, when the first car designed at Silverstone by Adrian Newey will hit the track, driven by Fernando Alonso.
However, the focus on 2026 must not undermine efforts for 2025. In fact, Aston Martin’s ambition is to lay the groundwork for the future as early as this year. The model, as admitted by new team principal Andy Cowell, is McLaren, whose rise from obscurity to success inspires every midfield team.
Andy Cowell’s comments
“Look at what McLaren has done: why can’t we do the same? Their transformation has been incredible. I believe it’s thanks to strong engineering leadership, and that’s something we can replicate,” said the Briton.
“We’ve put the right people in the key roles,” he added. “Usually, when you work hard, good results follow.” In addition to Adria Newey, Aston Martin’s recruitment drive includes Enrico Cardile (as Chief Technical Officer). And let’s not forget Honda’s entry as their power unit supplier: unlike Mercedes, the Japanese manufacturer will focus solely on providing engines to Aston Martin for 2026.
