Perez, a father’s pride
In recent months, only two people have defended Sergio Perez: his father Antonio and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. However, faced with the results at the end of 2024, even Horner had to concede, replacing Checo with Liam Lawson.
Perez Sr.’s words
Defending the former Red Bull driver is “Checo Senior,” Antonio, who believes his son deserves one final opportunity in F1: “As he himself said, he’ll wait these six months. If a good opportunity comes, he’ll take it,” Antonio said, as reported by *Esto.*
“Look at how many Formula 1 drivers took a sabbatical year and came back. Niki Lauda, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso—they all came back stronger than ever. I have no doubt that a good opportunity will arise for Sergio to return for a few more years. He deserves to say goodbye like the greats.” – he pointed out.
Beyond parallels that perhaps don’t entirely favor Perez, the #11 has to start from scratch, aware that at 35 (his age as of January 26), re-entering the Circus will be very challenging. But not impossible. Cadillac is reportedly showing interest, and Antonio Perez’s confidence in recent days suggests that an initial contact between the two parties may have already taken place.
