Andrea Stella over the moon after McLaren secures Constructors’ Championship: “An incredible feeling”
McLaren has claimed the tenth Constructors’ Championship in its history, sealing the title with six races still remaining in the 2025 Formula 1 season. This year has undoubtedly belonged to the Woking-based team, which now begins its well-deserved celebrations after a season of dominance and consistency.
Andrea Stella enjoys the moment
“I’m happy. Even last year it felt incredible to achieve such a result — becoming Constructors’ World Champions, considering how recently our journey began. This year, it feels even more unbelievable, I would say, to confirm ourselves with such determination knowing there are still six races to go,” said Team Principal Andrea Stella at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix.
He continued: “We would have loved to clinch the title with a race win, but it wasn’t possible today. We have to acknowledge that our rivals are very strong at the moment — but that’s what makes Formula 1 so spectacular. Hopefully, we’ll be back to winning ways in the coming races.”
This marks the second consecutive year that McLaren has captured the Constructors’ crown. Last season, the margin over second-placed Ferrari was much smaller — only 14 points separated the two teams at the end of the championship.
Stella added: “Today is a beautiful day for McLaren. I want to thank the entire team — the men and women who have done an incredible job and made this achievement possible.”
Contact between Norris and Piastri at the start
At the beginning of the race, there was light contact between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, after which the British driver moved up to third place. Piastri was clearly unhappy with how the situation unfolded and repeatedly asked the team whether they intended to intervene. However, Norris was forced to make a quick evasive maneuver to avoid Max Verstappen, who was directly in front of him at the time.
When asked whether he considered Piastri’s complaints to be a problem, Stella responded: “No, I like it. I like drivers who are determined and express their point of view clearly. But we must also put their perspective into context. It’s the perspective of a driver sitting in the cockpit — he sees what he sees. So he saw Lando coming, formed his own opinion, and of course, it all happened during a very intense moment like a Formula 1 race start.”
He continued: “I’m sure there will, as always, be constructive and open conversations to understand everyone’s point of view, learn what we need to learn, and come back even stronger for the rest of this championship — which is still very much open on the drivers’ side. Obviously, Verstappen is still part of the fight.”
The Drivers’ Championship remains open
While McLaren has already secured the Constructors’ Championship, the Drivers’ title is not yet decided. However, the British team holds a clear advantage here as well, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris currently occupying the top two positions in the standings. Five races remain, giving Max Verstappen a mathematical chance — with a bit of luck — to turn the situation around before the season ends.
