F1 | Piastri ready for a team talk with McLaren after Singapore contact with Norris
Oscar Piastri is taking a cautious approach before drawing conclusions about his collision with teammate Lando Norris during the Singapore Grand Prix. The young Australian driver, interviewed after the race, clarified that the matter will be addressed internally within McLaren, avoiding any hasty judgments.
The incident at Turn 3 created some tension within the papaya team, but it did not compromise Piastri’s race. The Australian finished in fourth place, just behind Norris, who secured third and reduced his deficit in the drivers’ championship to 22 points.
“I need to review the replays carefully to understand exactly what happened,” Oscar Piastri explained. “Two cars making contact is never what we want. Once I’ve seen the situation in full, I will draw my conclusions.”
Despite the frustration he expressed over the radio during the race, Oscar Piastri emphasized that the incident did not affect his overall performance. “The comments lasted a couple of laps out of 62. I’m not sure if they were broadcast with a delay on TV, but then I found my rhythm and the pace was good, even if I didn’t have the track position to do more.”
The Australian noted that the contact was partly caused by Norris, who came close to Max Verstappen, forcing the British driver to adjust his line against Oscar Piastri’s #81 car. However, Piastri remained composed and confirmed that internal discussions will be handled constructively.
Without specifying whether the upcoming team conversation will mirror the tensions seen at the Italian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri made it clear: “Once I have the full picture, we will definitely discuss it. I want to see everything before drawing any conclusions.”
With this approach, the Australian demonstrates maturity and professionalism, prepared to manage the internal rivalry with Norris without compromising his primary goal: continuing to push for his battle in the drivers’ championship.
