Alpine in Barcelona, but no shakedown: the truth about the first 2026 Formula 1 tests. Rumours of an Alpine shakedown in Barcelona have spread online.

Alpine shakedown? Discover the truth about the first tests in Barcelona ahead of the 2026 season.

In recent days, excitement has spread across social media over a possible Alpine shakedown at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. However, the real information suggests that fans may have misunderstood the situation. On Tuesday, photos appeared online showing Alpine trucks entering the circuit. At this time of year, when teams usually unveil their cars and begin the first test sessions, many immediately assumed that the French team was preparing an inaugural run with its new car. That assumption, however, is incorrect.

It is not yet time for the new Alpine: what is really happening in Barcelona

As confirmed by GPblog, Alpine has indeed arrived in Barcelona, but solely to organise the garages and hospitality areas ahead of the first official Formula 1 test, scheduled to take place in around a week and a half. The goal is to ensure that everything is ready after the winter break. There is therefore no immediate link to a shakedown of the new car.

The presentation of Alpine’s new Formula 1 car, equipped with a Mercedes power unit, is scheduled for 23 January, also in Barcelona. It is not yet clear when the car will actually be sent out on track, and it is very likely that this will only happen during the first day of testing.

Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto have been tasked with improving results after a disappointing 2025 season. With the Mercedes engine, expectations are for a step forward in terms of competitiveness, even if the real verdict will only come once the car is on track.
