Albon open to F1 changes: reverse grids and fewer free practice sessions

Alex Albon has expressed support for some of Stefano Domenicali’s bold proposals for the future of Formula 1, including shorter races, reverse grids, and the potential elimination of some free practice sessions. The Williams driver sees innovation as a positive step for the sport, signaling his willingness to adapt to new ideas.

Domenicali’s proposals spark debate

The words of Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali have sparked discussions across the paddock. He suggested shortening race distances, removing certain free practice sessions, and even exploring alternative formats such as reverse grids. The ideas have generated mixed reactions among drivers and teams alike.

Alex Albon’s response at Monza

When asked about these proposals at Monza, Alex Albon welcomed the possibility of significant changes. “I wouldn’t mind. I’m open to new ideas. He mentioned reverse grids and other concepts. We have to consider everything carefully. We’re already running more races than ever,” the Thai driver said, highlighting his willingness to embrace innovation.

Albon weighs in on free practice sessions

Alex Albon focused particularly on the idea of reducing or eliminating free practice sessions. “Personally, I wouldn’t mind removing free practice if that’s under consideration. I’m not opposed; I’d just like to understand his thoughts better. I’m not sure if it’s something he really intends to implement or if it was just a general discussion in that interview. But personally, I’m open,” he explained.

F1 must remain open to change

For Alex Albon, Formula 1 should not shy away from change, as long as any potential updates are thoroughly discussed with drivers and analyzed in detail. “We drivers haven’t fully discussed it among ourselves yet,” he admitted. Despite this, several drivers have already expressed reservations, including Max Verstappen, who prefers a more traditional approach to F1, and Fernando Alonso, who spoke strongly at Monza in defense of the F1 of past years.

Future discussions ahead

While Stefano Domenicali’s ideas remain proposals for now, Alex Albon’s willingness to engage in the debate shows that these topics will continue to generate conversation throughout the F1 community. His openness signals that the paddock may gradually explore innovations that could reshape the sport in the coming seasons.
