Lando Norris speaks again about the difficulties he’s experiencing at McLaren, which are putting his chances of beating Oscar Piastri at risk.
Currently, with two wins under his belt, Lando Norris is in second place in the drivers’ standings, trailing his teammate Oscar Piastri by as many as 22 points. Although the British driver’s season seemed to get off to a good start, his struggles to adapt to the MCL39 and the psychological pressure have led the 25-year-old to lose confidence in himself and, above all, in McLaren. In an interview, Lando Norris tries to clarify the situation and answers the question: is it a problem of adapting to the car, or simply a lack of mental strength?
Lando Norris’ words
“I think it’s always a bit of both, you always try to improve in both areas,” Norris told the media. “I’m certainly not perfect in either one, but I believe that technically I’m still trying to figure out how to get the most out of this car compared to last year’s.”
“That’s where I’ve found most of the lap time when I’ve struggled this year. Some mistakes, then, have been due to the fact that the car doesn’t give me the feeling I want, nor what I need to get the most out of it.”
“You can blame both factors — it depends on which one shows up first at the end of the day — but I think both play a part, in a way, but at the same time I always try to improve on both fronts. I never think you can be complete, satisfied, and then move on.”
“I believe that every sportsman, every athlete, is constantly trying to improve in both of these areas.”
