McLaren has a weak point, and Andrea Stella is concerned, but the goal remains the Constructors’. While Max Verstappen seems unreachable in his championship pursuit, the Papaya team is not despairing. Lando Norris’s dream was perhaps as sweet as it was elusive, and it’s time to get back to reality. However, to beat Ferrari in the constructors’ standings, there is a matter to resolve.
He was called to deliver a champion’s performance and did not disappoint: Max Verstappen, with the victory (and fastest lap) at Interlagos, is placing a hand on the World Champion trophy. To lift it, we will have to wait, at least until Las Vegas, even though Lando Norris’s hopes are slim. The McLaren team, however, sees the glass as half full.
After a not particularly brilliant start to the season, waiting for the MCL38 to take shape with the first updates, aiming for the Drivers’ Championship has always been difficult. The goal, once the mechanical characteristics of the car were refined, became to win the Constructors’ title. With a 36-point lead over Ferrari, the direct rivals are Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Ferrari vs McLaren: Andrea Stella ignites the challenge
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella quickly defended the team and his driver after what happened at Interlagos: “The Constructors’ Championship has always been our priority, so this result changes nothing,” the Italian explained to ESPN. No disappointment for the missed opportunity, therefore, but attention to the issues with the car.
“When the tires lock up in a car like [in Interlagos], I don’t look at the driver. I wonder why the car continues to lock up the front tires in conditions like these. I don’t believe that tire pressure was a significant factor. We struggled with locking up all weekend in wet conditions with both drivers; it’s an aspect we need to examine.” – the McLaren team principal concluded at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
