Max Verstappen will need a top-level performance to challenge McLaren in the Austrian Grand Prix. The papaya team arrives at the Red Bull Ring as the favorite, although Montreal exposed a few weaknesses in the MCL39. And every time McLaren stumbles, Verstappen is ready to capitalize and keep his title hopes alive.
The four-time world champion, who has claimed five consecutive pole positions at the Red Bull Ring, aims to extend that streak in Austrian qualifying and take his third win of the season after victories in Suzuka and Imola.
Max Verstappen’s comments
“The Austrian GP is always a special race for the team and this week will be very busy. It’s always great to feel the support from the Red Bull Ring grandstands and the Orange Army. To celebrate the event, I’ll be wearing my special Orange Lion helmet, which blends the Red Bull orange and blue colors and features a lion in the design,” said the reigning world champion. “We want to keep the momentum from Canada going; we’ve worked hard on improvements. The circuit is always fun to drive—it’s a short lap but offers good overtaking opportunities. Hopefully, we can qualify well and deliver a strong performance.”
Yuki Tsunoda‘s comments
“I’m looking forward to being back in Europe and racing in Austria, our home race. Being at the Red Bull Ring as a Red Bull driver is always special and you can feel the support every time you exit the garage,” added Yuki Tsunoda. “We need to be consistent this week and get the most out of the car in every session. It’s been a few tough weeks for me on track, and I’m determined to start from a better position—something my team deserves. Saturday will be crucial, and we’ve worked hard together to make sure we perform well in qualifying so we can start strong on Sunday.”
