Red Bull warms up Lindblad
Arvid Lindblad is getting closer to his Formula 1 debut. Red Bull plans to put the 17-year-old British driver in the car even before he reaches adulthood, slotting him into FP1 at Silverstone as part of the sessions reserved for young drivers.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko confirmed the young talent’s participation in Silverstone’s FP1, although he did not specify whether it would be in the Red Bull or Racing Bulls car.
Helmut Marko’s statement
“He will be in the car on Friday at Silverstone,” Helmut Marko told Kleine Zeitung. “He stands out for his mental strength and self-confidence. We are also preparing in case something happens to Max Verstappen regarding the points on his Super Licence. We even had an agreement with another team for a few races, and at one point, the same reserve driver was lined up to cover three teams. It’s not easy to find someone ready to step in, which is why Lindblad will be in the car.” – the Red Bull advisor pointed out.
Red Bull wants to avoid any surprises in case Max Verstappen gets involved in another incident at the Austrian Grand Prix and loses the final point on his Super Licence, which would disqualify him from racing at Silverstone. The British driver of Swedish descent is also being called into action because fellow reserve Ayumu Iwasa’s commitments in Japan sometimes clash with the F1 calendar. For this reason, on Monday, June 23, Lindblad spent half a day at Imola driving the old AlphaTauri AT04.
