Chasing the repeat
In just over a month, McLaren will begin defending its Constructors’ Championship title, which was won surprisingly in 2024 thanks to an impressive performance leap starting from the Miami GP, allowing the Woking team to break a 26-year drought. Last season was record-breaking, with seven different drivers securing at least two wins each. However, with market upheavals – including the arrival of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari – and similar performances from the cars since the first GPs, the 2025 season promises to be even more intriguing.
Open challenge
Zak Brown, McLaren’s CEO, predicted an “epic” season while speaking at the Autosport Business Exchange conference. “I think the field will be even closer than last season,” the American manager suggested. The target for the papaya team will obviously be to repeat their success in the team standings and also secure the Drivers’ title, which has been absent since 2008, breaking Max Verstappen‘s dominance.
Many contenders
However, according to Zak Brown, many will be in contention for the big prize this year: “I expect the top four teams to battle each other, just like at the end of last season. When you see the turnaround we had, there’s no reason other teams can’t do the same. We’re about to start an epic season. I think there will be an incredible battle for the Drivers’ title, with at least three or four contenders. And we will have four teams fighting for the Constructors’ title,” he concluded.
