The home favorite
Excitement is building within the Alpine team ahead of the season-opening race in Melbourne. The Enstone squad is undergoing a major transformation that will conclude next year with the departure from Renault power units and the transition from a constructor to a Mercedes customer team. In 2025, however, the initial goal is to at least retain sixth place in the team standings, ideally moving closer to the top half of the grid.
The season kicks off in Australia, the home race for Jack Doohan, who must immediately defend his seat from the looming presence of Argentine reserve driver Franco Colapinto. “I can’t wait to start the 2025 Formula 1 season, and doing so in Australia, at home, makes it even more special,” said the son of former rider Mick Doohan. “Starting my rookie season at Albert Park is a dream come true, and the support from the fans will be incredible, so I’ll enjoy every moment. I’ve worked hard for this opportunity, and now it’s all about working closely with the team and making sure we get the most out of the car. Albert Park is a tricky circuit, part street track and part permanent circuit, which makes it unique. The surface can be slippery, so finding the rhythm quickly is crucial. A strong start to the season is always important, so I hope we can put everything together and begin the right way. It’s hard to predict exactly where we will be in terms of performance until we hit the track in Melbourne, but our goal is to optimize every aspect of the car and put ourselves in the best possible position.” – he pointed out.
The veteran
Within the team, however, the clear point of reference is Pierre Gasly, the only one capable of assessing the team’s evolution over recent years. “I know the team well, and I feel we have gained momentum with many positive changes and improvements. There is a lot of excitement, and I can’t wait to get on track to see where we stand,” said the experienced French driver. “Starting the season in Melbourne is always a challenge due to the travel and time zone difference, but it’s a fantastic event. It’s Jack’s home race, so it will be even more special for him. Albert Park is a unique street circuit, bumpy and tricky, and the first races of the year are always unpredictable because the tracks are all very different. In the midfield, consistency will be key. Last year, we started the season in a difficult position, but the way we turned things around was truly impressive. I have never seen such a transformation within a season. In the long term, we are here to compete for the top spots. It will take time, but I truly believe we are heading in the right direction. I can’t wait to start the season in Melbourne and see how we compare to the competition.” – the Frenchman concluded.
