McLaren will hit the track as the reigning world champion team in 2025, and Zak Brown has made it clear that they do not intend to be any less competitive in the upcoming season. Here are the details of the team’s set goals.
In 2024, McLaren returned to success after 26 years by winning the constructors’ championship but missed out on the drivers’ title. The team’s driver management sparked much debate last season. However, as they head to Bahrain, McLaren’s CEO Brown does not believe the papaya rules should be abandoned.
Both drivers approach this season with optimism, feeling they can fight to become world champions.
How will McLaren handle internal rivalry?
Zak Brown began by recalling the team’s objectives for 2025 in terms of standings. McLaren aims to defend its constructors’ championship and also contend for the drivers’ title.
Regarding the potential internal battle, McLaren’s CEO confirmed the intention not to establish hierarchies. “And why not be greedy and make it a one-two, letting Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri decide who is first and who is second? So that is our collective goal.”
McLaren hopes that the fight for the drivers’ championship will be solely between the two papaya drivers. However, Zak Brown remained realistic, acknowledging the competitiveness of their rivals. “I think, as the drivers have said, this season should be epic and even tighter than last year. So I predict eight different winners.”
“Every weekend last year, while the top four teams were always leading, it seemed like there was always someone capable of shaking things up. So I expect that to happen again.”
