Nico Hulkenberg has returned to Sauber after making his comeback in Formula 1 with Haas, once again proving to be one of the most important drivers, at least among the teams fighting in the midfield.
After finishing his stint with Haas in 11th place overall in the Drivers’ Championship with 41 points, the German has returned to Hinwil for the team’s final season under the Sauber name (having previously raced for them in 2013), before it permanently transitions to Audi.
At an event held at the O2 Arena in London, Hulkenberg made his debut with Sauber, appearing in the new black and highlighter-green racing suit.
This morning, the team, now led by Mattia Binotto, revealed the colors of the German driver’s helmet, which, as has often been the case in recent seasons, matches the livery of the car he will be driving.
The 2025 Sauber will still have a black base, but the green accents that make it highly visible have been applied differently compared to last season. Nico’s helmet has a black base with a double vertical parallel green stripe that splits it into two hemispheres.
These two stripes start at the middle of the chin guard and extend to the top of the helmet, where his race number, 27, is prominently displayed. Aside from that, the helmet is quite simple. The third color, white, is used only to outline two thinner vertical stripes parallel to the green ones, along with stars positioned just a few millimeters away.
Few embellishments, but a very “racing” and aggressive helmet for a driver who will be tasked with carrying the worst-performing team of 2024—according to the numbers and the Constructors’ Championship standings—and bringing it back up, while awaiting Audi’s arrival in about ten months. In short, change is just around the corner: an immediate shake-up will be needed, as Germany will not tolerate another season like the last.
